Message: Sounds like you are talking about a 4.7 motor here; both from the oil fill description and the misinformation about a Mercedes design. For one thing, the 4.7 was designed by mopar before the Daimler Benz merger/take over. The magnum 4.7 in the Dakotas has never been installed in a Mercedes by the factory.
Because the oil fill tube is plastic and doesn't conduct engine heat like the older metal fill tubes, some people were noticing condensation turning the oil residue at the top of the filler a milky color. (Those of us using synthetic oil seem to notice this less). The factory solution was to add another pice of plastic to hide the cold area at the top of the tube so people wouldn't see the condensation. From what we've heard, that's all it does - not really needed.
