Subject: 4x4 axle over or under springs? IP: Logged
Message: Hi guys, first time user.
My dads got a 2000 4wd. As is typical of pickups, the butt end is an inch or so higher then the front. He's not happy with this look. I was wondering if the rear axle was over the springs or under. If it was over the springs, I would recommend a spacer to bring it down a bit. He never loads it or runs it hard so the handling difference would not be an issue.
Thanks in advance

Message: They are over the springs. I think the suspension would have settled by now since your truck is a 2000.
Someone might sell a front end leveling kit. I wouldn't mess with the setup though, after a while, you just get used to it.
Have him put a 100lbs or so of sandbags in the bed first, whatever it takes to make it level and take some measurements to see how far down you need to go. You could leave sandbags in the back as it will smooth the ride some from an unloaded bed.

Message: If it’s a 4x4, the axle would be under the rear springs. 2wd Dakotas have the axle over the springs. I would try the sand bag trick posted above first. He could also try to raise the front slightly by cranking up the torsion bars some, however it does stiffen the ride some.
