They way to get rid of that is simply put your truck in first then into reverse it will fix your problem

my 88 Dakota just lost reverse last week! the gears ground occasionally, but then it started popping out of gear. now it won't go into reverse no matter what I do. the truck isn't worth the $1200 the junkyard wants for a used tranny. any easy fixes?

I have a 1997 Dakota Sport Club Cab with a V-6 and 5spd tranny, my question is why does it pop out of first sometimes when I take off?
